The Cleveland Guardians are on the move to make changes in their roster, and as a result, they have signed first baseman Carlos Santana for a one-year, $12 million contract, as per mlb.com. This announcement came after the Guardians traded their first baseman, Josh Naylor, to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for right-handed pitcher Slade Cecconi.
In two years, Carlos Santana had to change three teams, as he had played for the Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates. Now in 2025, he'll be playing with the Guardians, with whom he had played 11 seasons in his 16 years of MLB career.
The fans, however, mentioned how the first baseman has been getting tossed around by the teams in such a short amount of time.
"bros being passed back and forth like a volleyball," one fan said.
"1st basemen are playing musical chairs," another fan stated.
Other fans also shared similar sentiments about Carlos Santana getting signed with the Cleveland Guardians for the third time.
"And on his third stint in Cleveland he rose again," one fan mentioned.
"Go get lindor now and unite the 2016 band back together," one fan remarked.
"He would've been nice 5 YEARS AGO," one fan wrote.
"Traded Josh Naylor to sign Santana," one fan pointed out.
MLB analyst was confused by Josh Naylor's trade of the Guardians before signing Carlos Santana
The Cleveland Guardians have surprised many by trading Josh Naylor to the Diamondbacks and then went on to secure the All-Star first baseman Carlos Santana in the roster.
Keith Law of The Athletic tried his best to understand this trade, however, he couldn't reach the actual reason behind this decision of the Guardians.
"I'm flummoxed by Cleveland giving Naylor away for so little, then turning around and spending most of the savings on a reunion with Santana, who'll turn 39 in April and offers more downside risk than upside," wrote Law.
"I'm not sure if that's enough to make me switch from Naylor to Santana given the latter's age, and since the Guardians didn't even save any money here, they aren't any better positioned to go get another power hitter to replace Naylor's bat."
This trade has attracted a lot of skepticism, however, it's to be seen if the Guardians' front office makes any more moves in their lineup before the spring training.
