LA Dodgers bullpen pitcher Brusdar Graterol, who returned on Sept. 10 from a hamstring injury, has been placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right shoulder inflammation, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
Graterol will miss the final four games of the season. Depending on how serious the injury is, he'll likely miss the first half of postseason games. He has already missed the first half of the season owing to shoulder struggles, and it seems he's in for more.
The Dodgers, who are already shorthanded in rotation now, will be without their key leverage innings pitcher. Upon returning, Graterol was lights out, allowing only three hits and two runs across 7.1 innings, walking two and striking out seven.
In a corresponding move, the Dodgers have recalled Ben Casparius from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill the void. This was part of the roster moves this Thursday, which also saw Austin Barnes being activated from the injured list and catcher Hunter Feduccia being sent back to the minors.
Dave Roberts was ecstatic after Brusdar Graterol threw 2.0 innings against Rockies
Before Thursday's news, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expressed optimism after Brusdar Graterol pitched two scoreless innings for the first time since returning from a Grade 1 right hamstring strain.
Roberts already had in mind how he was going to use Graterol in the postseason.
“Brusdar is going to have to be the guy that does an up-down for us, because he’s pretty efficient when he’s out there,” Roberts said.
"He’ll be down the next couple of days, obviously, but for him to be able to do two innings for us tonight, given where we were at, if he doesn’t then I don’t know how we really cover that game and have coverage for tomorrow. That was a big two innings.”
Little did he know Brusdar Graterol would head to the injured list just when the team needed him the most. The Dodgers would be hoping Graterol makes a swift return from their injured list, which already includes Anthony Banda, Connor Brogdon and Nick Frasso, among relief pitchers.
