Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton and his wife Lindsey stole the spotlight with their chemistry during Friday's TwinsFest, where fans got firsthand testimony on their 12-year relationship.
The couple started dating in 2012 after they met at Appling County High School. They got married in 2016 and are now proud parents of three sons: Brixton (born in 2013), Blaze (born in 2020) and Baire (born in 2023).
Their relationship was tested in front of a huge crowd during the event. They participated in a couple's challenge and were asked to predict each other's answers to fun and quirky questions. Byron and Lindsey proved they were perfectly in sync.
"If your spouse could eat one food for the rest of their life, what would it be?" the host asked.
Buxton revealed that it would be rice and beans with french fries for him. Without missing a beat, Lindsey held up her answer: "Rice + beans, french fries," echoing the same response, resulting in cheers and laughter from the crowd.
When Lindsey shared love for Minnesota while revealing insights on Byron Buxton's $100 million extension
The relationship between the Minnesota Twins and Byron Buxton has stood strong over the last decade. The Twins remain the only team Buxton has played for in his MLB career after making his debut in 2015.
Buxton and his team continued their relationship as the franchise offered him a seven-year $100 million contract extension in December 2021. During an interview after signing the deal, Lindsey shared insights about what they discussed before deciding to stay in Minnesota.
"The thought of, 'OK, we're leaving, and we're not going to Minnesota," Lindsey said, via The Minnesota Star Tribune. "'We're going somewhere else. Just it didn't seem right.' I guess just over time, just being here year in and year out, we just fell in love with it. It really does feel like a second home."
Buxton couldn't agree more as his wife said.
"For my kids, they're a part of Minnesota," Buxton said. "School and fishing, baseball, whatever the situation may be, they get to enjoy that a little bit more and know that we're a little bit more stable."
Buxton's contract runs until 2028 but given the sense of relationship he shares with the organization, it's unlikely he'll play somewhere else before he calls it a career.
