Shohei Ohtani has witnessed the devastation in his home area, as wildfires have ravaged the Los Angeles region area. The Los Angeles Dodgers aren't playing games right now, otherwise they might've had to evacuate. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers, and Rams had to either postpone or move games out of LA due to the fires.

Ohtani has joined the growing list of celebrities who have donated to help provide relief. In this case, the reigning NL MVP pledged $500,000, joining Leonardo DiCaprio and others in the fight.

Of course, baseball fans cannot let a good deed go unpunished. They've taken to social media to make jokes about Shohei Ohtani's gesture of goodwill, poking fun at the Dodgers superstar.

"Nearly a billionare and can't shell over more than a million. LA Greed for you!" one fan said.
"Donating his gambling money," another fan said.
"There’s so many jokes to be made, but, it’s a good gesture no matter how you look at it," one said.

Here are some more reactions from fans.

"let me guess, he’s paying $50,000 and the rest is deferred?"

However, not all fans criticized Ohtani.

"People who mock the good intentions of others should be ashamed of themselves," one fan said.

Fans poked fun at a myriad of storylines that have surrounded Ohtani. They joked about his deferred payments since the Dodgers are only paying him $2 million of the $70 million he's signed for. They also mocked the gambling scandal that got his translator fired and imprisoned.

There's also some displeasure with the overall amount Ohtani is donating, but that comes with every donation of this sort. The common criticism is always that a person who has more money can donate more than they do. Whether that's a fair statement or not is up for debate.

Shohei Ohtani is selling shirts to help LA fires

Shohei Ohtani isn't just donating $500,000 to help fight the wildfires in Los Angeles. He's also organizing a sale, with all proceeds going toward the same cause. He announced it on Instagram on Thursday.

Translated to English, his caption reads:

"Our hearts go out to all the firefighters who continue to fight for us during the fires in LA. We'll be donating $500,000 to help those firefighters and those forced to live in shelter to help animals in need. The Los Angeles Dodgers are also working together with teams from other competitions to help sell T-shirts and more."

Shohei Ohtani hopes all his fans will consider buying and that his team's home recovers quickly.
