In a recent interview, the New York Mets' new special assistant Carlos Beltran spoke about making an impact as he looks to help minor league players associated with the Mets organization. He discussed his ideas for the 2023 season and also revealed why he took the front office job.

Beltran is a former nine-time MLB All-Star, whose career was spread across seven different teams. His most successful time was with the New York Mets, winning three Gold Glove awards and two Silver Slugger awards and was named in the All-Star team five times.

He completed his career playing with the Houston Astros and winning the 2017 World Series.

In an interview with SNY TV, Carlos Beltran said he looked forward to starting his tenure with his former team, aiming to help the minor league players. He said every player needs guidance at some point in their careers.

He wishes to be that person for the players in the New York Mets organization as they look to make it through the majors.

"When you're in the minor-league system, you need love. You need people to care about you. I'm motivated because I didn't have that person and I hope I can be that person for those kids," Carlos Beltran said.

Players like Francisco Lindor and Edwin Diaz pushed the Mets administration to hire Carlos Beltran and mark his return to the team for the first time since 2011.

Beltran further talked about the good memories he brought back during his time as a Mets player. He said the organization made him a better player during his seven-year tenure in New York:

"This organization is part of who I am as a ballplayer. I went through moments here that made me a better player."

Carlos Beltran says he is not ruling out the possibilty of returning to the manager position

This isn't the first time that Carlos Beltran has been officially signed by the New York Mets ahead of an MLB regular season. Back in November 2019, the Mets hired Beltrán as their manager to replace Mickey Callaway, signing him to a three-year contract with a club option for a fourth year.

However, both parties parted ways even before the season began, as Beltran was the sole player named in the Houston Astros' sign stealing scandal. The Astros scandal was the major talk surrounding the 2019-20 offseason as they were accused of cheating opponents by stealing their signs from the bullpen.

Beltran didn't rule out the possibility of a return to the manager position. However, he is currently looking to aid the organization in whatever capacity he is assigned.

"At this point I'm thinking about what I have to do for the organization, and what are the things that Billy wants me to do for him and for the team, but you can never say no," he said.
"You can never say no when you love the game and you love being around guys and being able to impact players and make players' careers better. At this point, I'm OK where I am, but later on? I don't know."

It remains to be seen how Carlos Beltran will help in realizing Steve Cohen's dream of making the Mets a World Series champion side.
