When the Philadelphia Phillies drafted Andrew Painter with the 13th pick in the 2021 draft, nobody expected him to have this kind of impact. The 19-year-old looked the part when he made his spring training debut against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.
Pitching is an art form that takes years or even decades to master. Painter may be the exception to the rule. The teenager looked natural as he effortlessly pitched in the high nineties against some of the game's top hitters. He finished the night allowing one run, three hits and striking out one batter over two innings.
Coaches, fans, and even opposing players were impressed by what they saw from the young righty. All-Star Carlos Correa could not help but pay the young prospect a compliment:
"I believe this kid’s going to be a star"
According to a recent article in The Athletic, Correa saw something special in Painter. He went on to say that he had researched Painter's game and proceeded to say that Painter had a "great mound presence."

Carlos Correa is a two-time All-Star, Rookie of the Year and Platinum Glove winner. He previously won the World Series with the Houston Astros in 2017. He has been one of the league's top performers since making his debut in 2015.
Painter was able to put up two strikes against Carlos Correa but wasn't able to strike him out.

Andrew Painter looked comfortable in his first start. He pitched 29 total pitches, the majority of which were fastballs. In total, he threw 19 fastballs, six cutters, three sliders and a curveball.

His only strikeout of the outing came against Minnesota Twins outfielder Max Kepler, who was deceived on a break cutter.
Painter is currently ranked the No. 24 prospect in the MLB. He is the Philadelphia Phillies' No. 1 overall prospect.
There is a lot of buzz surrounding the young prospect. He may only be 19 years old but he showed the maturity of a seasoned veteran on the mound in his debut. Andrew Painter is a name baseball fans should remember. Expect to see a lot more of the young starting pitcher in the coming years.
