The LA Dodgers dropped the series opener against a potential World Series contender, the Baltimore Orioles, at home. Both teams struggled for offense with exceptional pitching from both sides. However, the Orioles offense scored one more run to win the game 3-2.
It's not regular for the Dodgers offense to struggle for runs, but that was the case on Tuesday. Fans mocked certain players and the team as a whole, with some even predicting a potential overtaking of the San Diego Padres for the NL West lead.
"Embarrassing," one fan commented.
One fan blamed Chris Taylor for making his at-bat count in the ninth, stranding the tying run by getting lined out to end the game. Interstingly, Taylor was activated into the roster after the club released Jason Heyward last week.
"CHRIS TAYLOR DFA NOW," one fan wrote.
"What a waste of space is Taylor?" another added.
"DFA CT3 NOWWWWWWW," another wrote.
One fan mocked the Dodgers with the Padres catching up for the division lead.
"Choke artists," another fan wrote.
Dodgers lose series opener vs Orioles 3-2
The two teams started well, scoring a run each in the second inning. Ryan O'Hearn homered off Jack Flaherty, while Miguel Rojas' sac fly brought home Tommy Edman in the second.
The Dodgers added one more run in the third against Cole Irvin, who slipped up an RBI single to Kike Hernandez in the middle of a jam. In the fifth inning, the Orioles' Ramon Urias blasted a two-run go-ahead home run to take the lead 3-2.
Multiple opportunities came in for the Dodgers to tie the game, but they couldn't capitalize, leading to a situation in the ninth where they loaded up first and second base with Taylor to come at plate.
After an intense at-bat, Taylor lined out on the seventh pitch of Seranthony Dominguez to strand potential runners on base.
With the loss, the Dodgers dropped to 78-54 and are now leading the division by just three games over the San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
