Clayton Kershaw became a free agent at the end of the season, but former Dodgers teammate Tyler Glasnow is confident he will re-sign with the team. The 36-year-old has been one of the best pitchers in the game for more than a decade and is now in the twilight of his career.
On "Chris Rose Rotation," Glasnow said Kershaw would return to the team despite declining his $10 million player option for 2025 (35:00 onwards):
"He is so much more than just a starting pitcher on the team," Glasnow said when asked why he felt Kershaw would return. "He's been there for so long, he's almost ingrained into the fabric of the Dodgers. He is such a huge clubhouse presence, his reach goes beyond baseball for sure."
Clayton Kershaw was selected in the 2006 MLB Draft by the Dodgers and made his major league debut with them in 2008. He soon established himself as one of the best pitchers of his generation and has made 10 All-Star appearances.
He has also won the NL MVP once and the Cy Young award three times to become one of the most decorated pitchers in MLB history.
Despite his dominance in the majors during his prime, Kershaw's career has been riddled with injuries over the past few years. He started the 2024 season on the IL and made only seven starts, ending with a 2-2 record and a 4.50 ERA.
Blake Snell wants to have a locker next to Clayton Kershaw
While Tyler Glasnow is confident that Clayton Kershaw will return to the team next year, he is not the only pitcher looking forward to working with legendary ace. The Dodgers' new signing Blake Snell is also excited to learn from Kershaw and has requested to have his locker next to the veteran's:
"I can't wait. I was telling Andrew (Friedman) I need my locker next to his."
It is clear that Kershaw holds a legendary status among younger pitchers today and both Snell and Glasnow are eager to learn from him. However, only time will tell if he will rejoin the club for the 2025 MLB season.
