The 2024-25 offseason saw many surprising moves from teams and players, but the most exciting one was the Arizona Diamondbacks' acquisition of Corbin Burnes with a six-year, $210 million deal. Many aficionados didn't see the Diamondbacks as a contender, as they aren't known to spend much, but they broke their franchise record in securing starting pitcher Corbin Burnes.

He seems excited about this deal. In a conversation with Brian Kenny and Cliff Floyd, Corbin Burnes expressed his thoughts on joining Arizona in the 2025 season. Burnes also sounded excited to play alongside veteran Diamondbacks Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly:

"Yeah it's a really good group to be in there with Gallen and Kelly. Guys that have been doing it here for a long time some of the young arms, and in fact and you know Rodriguez, they signed last year; this is just a really deep group of starting pitchers.
"Really good group of starting pitchers to go along with a really good young core of position players. It's exciting team obviously, they were the World Series a couple years ago, just barely missed out on the postseason last year. So looking to get back to October baseball again this year."

Corbin Burnes also responded to what keeps him consistent at being his best in every tournament despite the setbacks.

"Yeah I think it's just sticking to the game plan knowing knowing that you're putting the homework in on the team that you're getting ready to face executing pitches is the main thing if you can execute as many pitches you can in a game you know.
"I know I've got the stuff and the command to go out there and go deep into games and have a good start so just trusting the trusting the numbers trusting my eyes, and I'm watching video knowing that I put a game plan together and just go out and execute," he added.

Corbin Burnes is now closer to home, as his family lives in Scottsdale, so thata was another important reason behind joining the Diamondbacks, as he'd get to play close to his loved ones.

Scott Boras expresses his thoughts on Corbin Burnes' $210 million deal

Corbin Burnes' agent Scott Boras talked about how he contacted the Arizona Diamondbacks in hopes of getting a positive response, and he did.

However, he also mentioned that the decision was taken by Corbin Burnes and his family, including his wife Brook, who were excited for him to play close to their home in Phoenix.

Boras spoke about the deal in a press conference:

"I think this is a classic example of a player, you know, Corbin and Brook really putting their family first. You always have the good fortune you hope to be competitive and also take care of the needs of your family, and to do it at home.

"I'm very grateful to Ken who took a phone call and then took 10 other phone calls and really did something I think that had a lot to do with not only his baseball team but his community, and understood what Corbin and Brook's goals were.
"I'm very pleased because when you have twins and you have a three-year-old, and you watch and you always remember as a parent what a [parent] has to go through at those ages. I'm so happy they get to stay at home and do it. So, Ken and Derek and everyone in the new organization, thank you."

In June 2024, Corbin Burnes threw seven innings against the Texas Rangers at Camden Yards and won 11-2. Right after that, the Baltimore Orioles ace rushed to Phoenix via an overnight trip, as his wife was scheduled to deliver twins. He will now look to have a great work-life balance while playing for Arizona.
