The Texas Rangers were dealt a huge scare on Saturday as shortstop Corey Seager was hit by a pitch on his left wrist against the Baltimore Orioles. The Texans entered the game on the back of five consecutive defeats this week and were eager to break the slump with a win.
While Seager started the game on a strong note with a solo homer in the first inning, he was struck by a Cade Povich pitch in his second at-bat and immediately walked off the field.
While the Rangers have been struggling offensively this season, Seager has been one of their best performers so far. He launched his 15th home run of the season in the first inning, making him the team's joint leader in homers with Adolis Garcia.
Corey Seager was originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2012 MLB Draft and went on to make his major league debut with them in 2015. He spent seven seasons with them, winning the Rookie of the Year in his first year and the World Series in 2020.
He then joined the Texas Rangers ahead of the 2022-23 season and went on to win his second World Series last year. He has won World Series MVP twice.
Rangers receive good news as Corey Seager's initial X-ray results come back negative
Things didn't look good for the Texas Rangers when shortstop Corey Seager fell to the ground in pain after being hit on the wrist by a pitch against the Baltimore Orioles. The slugger was clearly in pain, clutching his left wrist gingerly as he got to his feet and walked off toward the dugout.
However, MLB insider Jared Sandler reports that the Rangers camp has now confirmed that Seager's initial X-ray results have come back negative.
He is scheduled to undergo further evaluation tomorrow but the initial results look promising. The Texas staff will be hoping that there is no serious damage so that he can return to MLB action without a prolonged absence.
