The Chicago Cubs will be one of the most interesting teams to watch as the MLB trade deadline approaches. Although the club has said that they are focused on 2025 and beyond, they will have several intriguing players who could be moved before the deadline.
Despite potentially being able to contend for a National League Wild Card spot this season, the Chicago Cubs are believed to be looking to move on from some of their veterans to build for the future. In a recent episode of 'Cubs Baseball Channel,' host Anthony Pasquale dove into the team's current roster and which player could potentially be on the move.
Pasquale believes that Cody Bellinger may be one of Chicago's stars who could dealt at the right price. Despite his sizable contract, Bellinger's defensive versatility and proven batting skills make him an interesting target at the deadline. He also added that the Philadelphia Phillies and Seattle Mariners could be potential landing spots for the veteran.
"[3:17] The fact of the matter is a power bat like that, although the power numbers have been down a little bit with defensive versatility as well, is going to be a very attractive option for some teams that need outfielders. The Phillies the Braves, maybe even the Mariners, who are looking for a power bat to add into their lineup are some options for Bellinger," Pasquale said.
Anthony Pasquale dubs the New York Yankees as an ideal destination for some Cubs stars
The New York Yankees are expected to be one of the most active teams as the MLB Trade Deadline approaches. Pasquale believes that they could be considered serious contenders to land one or more Chicago players, including Nico Hoerner and Jameson Taillon. The Bronx Bombers need both pitching and infielder depth which could be solved by either player in a deal.
"The Yankees are apparently showing interest in some leadoff options from the Cubs 2B Nico Hoerner and former Yankee OF Mike Tauchman. Would you bring both of these guys in or just one, or neither? #RepBX #MikeTauchman #NicoHoerner" - @yankee_source
"Similar to Taillon, Hoerner has control through 2026, so he is a long-term solution at a position of need," Pasquale said of elite contact-hitter Nico Hoerner. "[6:11] The Yankees are a team looking to upgrade their infield," he continued in the video, while also linking him to the likes of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, and Baltimore Orioles.
Although Pasquale did mention that he believes Justin Steele could be available for a sizable return, he noted that nearly every team across the MLB that is looking for a major upgrade at pitching should be interested. At this point, it seems that both Jameson Taillon and Nico Hoerner are the most likely candidates to be moved.
Chicago also has other players who could draw interest from across the league, including Mike Tauchman, Hector Neris, and Drew Smyly. It will be an interesting deadline for the boys in the blue pinstripes as they look to retool for next season.
