On Saturday, Mallory Swanson, the wife of Chicago Cubs star Dansby Swanson, was honored for reaching a new career milestone. On Sept. 21, Mallory played her 100th NWSL game, a 1-0 win for the Chicago Red Stars against the San Diego Wave FC.
Mallory, who helped Team USA clinch gold in women's soccer at the 2024 Paris Olympics, was honored by the club with a bouquet and a jersey with No. 100 printed behind it for the occasion. Dansby, whose Cubs team aren't a part of the postseason this year, was also present to celebrate the ceremony honoring his wife.
The duo, along with other Red Stars teammates, were captured in a frame ahead of the Oct. 12 game against Gotham FC, who lost 2-0.
Mallory Swanson started her NWSL career, joining Washington Spirit in May 2017. After three years with them, she was traded to Sky Blue FC in exchange for four draft picks.
The next season, she was again traded as she joined the Chicago Red Stars and has been with them ever since. In 100 games in the league, she has scored 33 goals.
Dansby Swanson praises Mallory for shining brightest on the biggest stage
A couple of months ago, USWNT capped off their incredible campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a gold medal in women's soccer. The 26-year-old forward scored the all-important goal against Brazil in the 57th minute, ending a 12-year drought since Team USA won its last gold medal in the event.
A proud Dansby Swanson took to Instagram to celebrate his wife's winning goal:
“God is so good. Always and forever. You are such an inspiration to so many, but more to me than anyone can ever fathom,” the shortstop wrote. “Your faith in God’s plan, gratitude in life, the grace and joy in which you live and play, the perseverance to fight through whatever obstacles thrown your way. You are truly a gift from above, and you shine with that every day.”
He also highlighted her achievements:
“I’m speechless. And now you’re a gold medal, Olympic champion, and 100 caps in the same day.”
Mallory, who's in the midst of the ongoing NWSL regular season, is next scheduled to play next weekend against her former team, the Washington Spirit.
