Craig Breslow and the Boston Red Sox are among the most active teams looking to make moves ahead of the MLB trade deadline. The Red Sox have just extended their contract with Alex Cora for another three years, and now they look forward to building-up their roster to stay in the race.

The Red Sox are competing for the playoffs this season and they seem to have a fair shot. As the trade deadline approaches, rumors continue to swirl around the club. However, Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow put fans at ease after he confirmed that the team is looking to improve its roster:

"Definitely looking for pitching. Would be something that we would want to do. At some point, we need to stop with the stupid analogies and put the turn signal on. We’ve played really good baseball for the last few months. We’ve put ourselves in this position where we’re going to look to improve the team. That’s where we would want to be." The Red Sox have a chance at making the playoffs if they continue to win games. The franchise is just two games behind the Kansas City Royals in the American League Wild Card race. Breslow has plans for the team beyond the 2024 season:

"We obviously have to be mindful of the future. In a perfect world, we can improve our 2024 team and also our ’25 and beyond. That’s my job. But I think as things stand right now, we’re looking for ways to improve the club."

Craig Breslow downplayed the possibility of trading free agents at season-end

Craig Breslow will need to make a few moves to acquire the perfect pitchers and right-handed hitters. However, he downplayed the possibility of trading free agents at the end of the season:

“It’s hard to think about how moving those guys would make us better," Breslow said.

The Red Sox are one of the teams that could go hard on targets before the MLB trade deadline. With Cora's extension, the club will do its best to stay in the field in October.
