Despite Shohei Ohtani's latest injury update, two-way phenom stays in lineup for Dodgers' Sunday game

Shohei Ohtani has been banged up a little bit of late. Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shared after Saturday's contest that the 29-year-old former MVP has been dealing with a bruised hamstring. Despite that, the slugger is still in the lineup on Sunday, May 26 as the Dodgers try and stave off a sweep.

Ohtani did leg out a triple for his only hit on Saturday, though it was reported that he was hardly running full speed on that play. He's normally one of the fastest players in the league, but the bruised hamstring might've been bothering him.

As of now, it doesn't appear that Ohtani will miss any time. Bruises can be painful, but they're not as detrimental as a strain or tear is to the hamstring muscle in particular. He is thus far 13 for 13 on stolen base attempts, but he might not be trying to swipe any bases for a little while to ease the wear and tear on his leg.

Shohei Ohtani batting second in Dodgers' lineup despite ailments

Shohei Ohtani has not had any major injuries this year, and he's looking to remain a part of the lineup every single day despite one that's been bothersome of late. With the Dodgers shockingly trying to prevent a sweep from the under-.500 Cincinnati Reds, Ohtani is batting second once again.

Mookie Betts will once again lead off as he has all season. The slugger is also in the midst of an impressive year like Ohtani is, and his ability to get on base before the Japanese star has led to better at-bats.

Following Ohtani is again Freddie Freeman, which gives the two-way phenom some protection from behind. Pitchers don't want to walk Ohtani to get to Freeman, so Ohtani sees more pitches to hit.

This has been the crux of the Dodgers' success on offense this year. While Ohtani could sit to rest his leg, he prefers to stay in the lineup to keep this trend going and try to reverse the poor fortunes of LA in this series.
