Toronto Blue Jays' City Connect jerseys were leaked on social media and went viral. The club officially unveiled the City Connect jersey on Thursday night before a launch party on King St. West in downtown Toronto. According to Marnie Starkman, the Blue Jays’ executive vice president, business operations, the jerseys are inspired by the city's nightlife.
The jerseys have a darker blue tone with red text of "TORONTO" at the front of the chest and towering skyscrapers of the city in the background, with Rogers Center in the middle of them. The Blue Jays are calling this dark blue tone a reflection of Lake Ontario at night.
The baseball cap is also designed intricately with a maple leaf over the letter "T," representing City Hall. Moreover, the Toronto buildings are again embroiled inside the cap.
However, much to the surprise, some fans have taken a distaste for this jersey, while others found it great.
"Looks like my pajamas from when I was 5," one commented.
"Did a 5 year old come up with this???" another wrote.
"I would have made the top part of the 2nd O more distinct and “open “ it somehow so ot looks like the SkyDome, and shorten the tower a bit as it goes too high but other than that these look awesome!" one fan had a suggestion to an otherwise awesome jersey.
The larger sentiment among fans suggests that the jersey was all "Fire."
"We finally got a good city connect!" one fan wrote.
"I'm a Braves fan but this is by far my favorite city connect uniform🔥🔥🔥" another added.
"These actually are fire," another wrote.
The Blue Jays will wear these jerseys for the first time on Friday night when they face the Pittsburgh Pirates at Rogers Centre.
Toronto Blue Jays players gave their verdict on their City Connect jersey
Almost all Blue Jays players found the City Connect jersey a perfect fit, representing the city beautifully. Let's take a look at some of the comments made by players:
"We’ve got one of the best skylines out there, so I think that putting it on the jersey is a really cool touch. We’ve got some water down there, too, so there’s Lake Ontario and the skyline. I like the colors. It’s cool to me," Jordan Romano said.
“I’m going full jersey tomorrow. I’m going to rock it. I’ll get a belt on for the first time in a while. Representing the city is pretty cool on a night like tomorrow,” John Schneider said.
"My favorite color is pink. You can put red and pink together. That’s why I like it,” Vladimir Guerrero Jr. said.
The following dates are all-night games where the Blue Jays will be donning the newly released jersey:
- June 3, 5, 17, 19, 28
- July 3, 19, and 24
- August 8, 21, 23
- September 13, 23, and 25
