When it comes to distinctions, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes likes pairs of two; he is a two-time NFL MVP, a two-time NFL passing touchdown leader, a two-time first-team selection in the Pro Bowl, and is now a two-time Super Bowl winner and MVP.

Mahomes' brilliance was on full display in Super Bowl LVII. The quarterback completed 21 of his 27 attempted passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns. His brilliance was crucial in lifting his team over the Philadelphia Eagles to win their second Super Bowl in four seasons.

The raw athleticism of the 27-year-old is not something that cannot be taught. Elite athletic skill runs in the family. Mahomes' father, Pat, was a pitcher who played in the MLB for 11 seasons.

Pat Mahomes Sr. was born in 1970, and drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 1988. He made his debut for the Twins in 1992, a year after the team won their first-ever World Series. He played for the Twins for four-and-a-half years, registering an ERA of 5.82 and a record of 18-28.

In 1996, Mahomes was traded to the Boston Red Sox. It was there that he made the transition from a starter to a bullpen arm. However, after appearing in 21 games for the Red Sox in 1996 and 1997, he was eventually released and decided to play in Japan.

After a brief foray into Japan's burgeoning NPB, Mahomes returned to the MLB in 1998. He signed a contract with the New York Mets heading into the 1999 season. The 1999 campaign turned out to be the best season of the elder Mahomes' career, as he went 8-0 with an ERA of 3.68 over 39 relief appearances.

Following his career with the Mets, Pat Mahomes Sr. embarked on a journeyman period. He pitched in relief roles for a number of teams, including the Texas Rangers, before retreating to the minor leagues. Mahomes Sr. retired from baseball in its entirety in 2009 without ever winning the World Series.

Patrick Mahomes has won two more championships than his father ever did

Although Pat Mahomes Sr. had a relatively long career that included service to a variety of different teams, he was never able to win a World Series. His son, Patrick Mahomes, has already won two Super Bowls with a probable few more to come before his career is over.
