On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times released a video obtained from an anonymous witness in connection to former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias' domestic battery case. The video comes after the Mexican professional pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor domestic battery charge in May.
Warning: Details of this incident might be disturbing
LA Times obtained the video from California Highway Patrol, who were in charge of the investigation. The video explicates the incident that took place on September 3rd last year when Urias was leaving B.M.O Stadium with his wife after attending a LA FC game.
In the clip, the 28-year-old could be seen pushing his wife onto the fence before pulling her hair and trying to land random punches as others try to restrain him. Eventually, Urias gets taken away by security officials.
Even though he was arrested for domestic felony charges, the D.A.'s office didn't press charges on him, instead filing a case against Urias for misdemeanor domestic battery. He was also immediately placed on administrative leave by the MLB.
After the release of the video, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their displeasure about Urias. They slammed him for stating that his behavior was unacceptable and demanded punishment.
"Disgusting piece of sh*t throw him in jail then he can joy some violence over there too," one fan wrote.
"Can't argue with the evidence here, hope he never throws another pitch in the MLB," a fan wrote about Urias' time in the big leagues.
"Ruined his career and cost him 220M in free agency," a fan said.
"What a waste. All that talent thrown away. Smh! Should have done jail time for this shit," a fan reacted angrily.
"Should never be allowed to play again," another fan wrote.
"He was given a second opportunity and he figured out how to f it up. Lost at least 150 million for this," another fan exclaimed.
Julio Urias is unlikely to return to MLB again
Julio Urias is a repeat offender, having also been charged with domestic violence in 2019. He was handed a 52-week domestic violence community program then. In addition, he was only handed a 20-game suspension by the MLB.
After details of the September arrest emerged, the MLB launched its own investigation. His contract expired in 2023, leaving him as a free agent.
Urias is expected to be handed a big suspension if he is ever to return to the league. That is, however, unlikely, as teams would want to avoid him as signing him could become a PR nightmare.
