It has been a tremendous bounce-back season for veteran starting pitcher Chris Sale, who looks to have turned back to clock to his prime years as he continues to excel for the Atlanta Braves this season. It has been a difficult few years for Sale, however, the eight-time All-Star has proven why he is one of the top pitchers of his generation.

The Braves acquired Sale this offseason, sending infield prospect Vaughn Grissom to the Boston Red Sox in the deal. Through 105.0 innings this year, Sale has posted a 12-3 record with a 2.74 ERA and 136 strikeouts, earning yet another All-Star selection.

On the other end of the deal, Grissom has struggled in limited action this year. He has only appeared in 23 games this season, posting a disappointing .148 batting average with no home runs and only three RBIs. While hindsight is 20/20, the Boston Red Sox may be regretting the decision to move on from Sale this offseason.

MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal seems to think that this is a sentiment shared by the club, suggesting that Sale is the exact kind of player the Red Sox are missing.

"Could use the player they traded away in the offseason, Chris Sale, right now," Rosenthal said on a recent episode of 'Foul Territory'.
"It's easy to say that in hindsight, but that's the player they need. They need an ace at the top of the rotation," Rosenthal continued, saying that the team has a lack of stability in their pitching staff.

It may be easy to say that the Red Sox could be regretting trading Sale to the Braves this offseason, however, the veteran has pitched more than 150 innings once since 2018.

Chris Sale admits his tenure with Boston Red Sox was a disappointment

It may be difficult to say that Sale's tenure with the Boston Red Sox was a failure due to the fact that he won a World Series with the team, however, the star himself seems to view it that way.

In an interview with "Foul Territory" back in January, Sale said that his health struggles with the Boston Red Sox make it difficult for him to look back on his tenure with the club with pride.

After joining the Red Sox in a blockbuster deal with the Chicago White Sox, Sale was expected to lead the team to glory. While they did win a title with him on the roster, Sale only threw 670.2 innings over six years with the team.
