The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded infielder Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for outfield prospect Mike Sirota and a competitive balance pick (No. 37 overall) in the 2025 MLB draft.

Fans offered their reactions to the news shared by ESPN's Jeff Pasan on X/Twitter. Most of them feel it was a predictable move by the Dodgers as they look to acquire Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki after adding Korean infielder Hye-seong Kim in the free agent market. Yet, some fans feel the Reds secured a bargain.

Gavin Lux was a first-round pick for the Dodgers in the 2016 MLB draft, but he has not exactly lived up to those expectations, even though he has turned out to be a productive player. He suffered an ACL injury, which ruled him out for the entire 2023 season. Lux made a solid comeback in 2024, but the wealth of infielders in the Dodgers roster meant his position was never secure.

So, it seemed almost inevitable that Lux was going to get traded by the LA Dodgers at some point.

Here are some reactions from fans on X:

"Looks like they’re making room for Roki Sasaki," said one fan.
"[Andrew] Friedman fleeced again," said another fan.
"It's about time Dodgers got rid of him," a fan posted.

Others viewed the situation from the Reds' perspective:

"Wow, did the Reds get fleeced here," wrote one fan.
"Reds needed another INF?! So smart!," a fan commented.
"The Reds now World Series contenders," one fan added.

The writing was on the wall for Gavin Lux after the World Series champions brought in KBO All-Star middle infielder Hye-seong Kim from the international free agent market. Their skill set is nearly the same, but Kim is considered to be a better defender than Lux, which probably was the tipping point for the latter to get traded to the Reds.

On the surface, Gavin Lux seems to be a good addition to the Cincinnati Reds roster, but it will be interesting to see how much playing time he gets for his new team.

Elly De La Cruz and Matt McLain are expected to be their two primary middle infielders, with the latter coming back into the team after missing out on the 2024 season due to shoulder surgery. So, the Reds could afford to trade Jonathan India to the Kansas City Royals in this off-season for starting pitcher Brady Singer.

Lux could have a battle on his hands to earn an everyday role in this Reds team.
