The Los Angeles Dodgers started the NLCS with a dominant 9-0 Game 1 win over the New York Mets at Dodger Stadium on Sunday. During their shutout win, the Dodgers bullpen also tied the MLB record for most consecutive scoreless innings in a postseason, with a streak of 33 innings so far.
They became only the third team in MLB history to toss 30 consecutive scoreless innings in a postseason. They then went on to tie the league record of 33 consecutive scoreless innings previously achieved by the 1966 Baltimore Orioles.
During Game 3 of the NLDS against the San Diego Padres, LA pitcher Walker Buehler gave up six runs in five innings as they went on to lose the game 6-5 that night.
Since then, the Dodgers have not given up a single run, posting three consecutive shutouts. After their famous bullpen game shutout in Game 4, Yoshinobu Yamamoto went five scoreless innings in Game 5 to help seal the series.
On Sunday's win over the Mets, Jack Flaherty was given the go-ahead and stepped up to throw seven scoreless innings, allowing only two hits. He was relieved by Daniel Hudson in the eighth before Ben Casparius came on to close the game.
Over the course of their 33-inning streak, the likes of Anthony Banda, Michael Kopech, Alex Vesia, Evan Phillips, and Landon Knack have all contributed to their impressive postseason record.
Manager Dave Roberts announces that the Dodgers will throw a bullpen in Game 2 of the NLCS vs the Mets
The Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff has proven over the last four games that they are more than capable of throwing a bullpen game to secure a win when they need to.
And after another stellar outing by his staff in Game 1, manager Dave Roberts announced his pitching plans for Game 2 tomorrow against the Mets:
"We are going to run a bullpen game. Not sure right now who's going to start," said Roberts.
While the manager has refused to name a starter for Game 2, a scoreless first inning tomorrow will see the LA bullpen break a 58-year-old MLB record currently held by the Baltimore Orioles.
