Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani has been reportedly pushed towards selling a luxury mansion, worth $7.85 million, that he purchased in Los Angeles, California, in May this year.

According to a Google-translated report of Yahoo Japan, the 30-year-old has decided to sell his million-dollar mansion, despite not spending a day there.

“Ohtani said that he could no longer live in the 1.2 billion Yen mansion he had purchased, and indicated his intention to sell it without moving into his new home,” the report read.

Ohtani's stardom continues to grow as he heads to his fourth Midsummer Classic on Tuesday at Globe Life Field. Even before joining the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason, he was a two-time MVP and three-time All-Star participant.

However, his 10-year, $700 million contract made him an even bigger sensation across the league.

In Japan, Ohtani is nothing short of a superstar. Since joining the Dodgers, the team has seen a great surge in merchandise and tourism business, all thanks to the 30-year-old Japanese phenom. However, that fame comes with its own disadvantages.

In May, Ohtani bought the five-bedroom luxury mansion which was formerly owned by US comedian Adam Carolla, in La Canada Flintridge, Calif. The news soon became a discussion point, especially among Japanese fans.

However, two Japanese media houses, Fuji TV and Nippon TV, took things too far by sharing the residential address of the mansion on their channel.

They interviewed the neighbors and even stuck past a few trees to find a basketball court. Due to privacy trespassing, the Ohtani camp contacted the real estate agency as the Dodgers star reportedly fumed at the situation.

If things hadn't turned out like this, he might have moved in with his wife Mamiko Tanaka, a professional Japanese basketball player, which now needs to wait.

Shohei Ohtani is eyeing an MVP season this year

It is Shohei Ohtani’s fourth consecutive All-Star invitation and his first for the LA Dodgers. He’s also the only Dodger star to be named in the NL All-Star’s starters list.

It’s impressive what Ohtani is doing this season. He is playing with a slash line of .314/.400/.637 and an OPS of 1.036, scoring 69 RBIs, 75 runs and 29 home runs in 93 games.

This is similar to his 2021 and 2023 season records when he was crowned the AL MVP unanimously. He also wowed experts and fans for years with his pitching performance. Unfortunately, this season, he’s restricted from taking the mound after undergoing elbow surgery in his pitching arm last year.

However, if Ohtani can keep his stat numbers up till the end of the year, there’s a high chance of him being on the list of MVP considerations.
