Two-time World Series winner Gavin Lux surprisingly found himself being traded away by the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this week, ending the second baseman's near 10-year stint with the franchise. He was traded to the Cincinnati Reds for Competitive Balance Round A pick and prospect Mike Shirota.

Gavin Lux was drafted by the Dodgers in 2016 and despite his ups and downs, remained a part of the LA roster. Although he suffered a season-ending injury in 2023 Spring Training, missing the entire year of action, the Dodgers gave him a $1.22 million contract in salary arbitration for 2024.

The second baseman got brutally honest on his Dodgers stint ending abruptly.

“Obviously, the last nine, 10 years, Dodgers are the only thing I’ve ever known,” Lux said.

The news of Lux's trade reached him when he was in Wisconsin to celebrate his grandfather's 91st birthday on Monday. Talking about the experience, the former Dodgers infielder said:

"It’s initially a little bit of a shock. That’s a big deal, a lot going on, but we just said, ‘Whatever, we’re going to enjoy the night and celebrate his birthday and go from there.’ We just kept on going."

Gavin Lux willing to switch infield positions for the Reds

Although Gavin Lux was shocked by the trade, his Dodgers stint ended on a high with the second baseman winning a second World Series ring with the franchise in 2024.

However, it isn't all doom and gloom for Lux as a trade to Cincinnati brings him close to his hometown, Kenosha, Wisconsin.

"Little stuff like that definitely helps and matters. Being close to home is pretty cool," Lux said.

While Gavin Lux exclusively occupied second base for the Dodgers in 2024, the Reds are exploring the idea of shifting his infield positions and Lux is open to the idea.

"I think if I have enough time and heads-up, I can be ready to play wherever these guys need me to," Lux said.

Following an ACL tear in 2023, Gabin Lux produced the best offensive season of his career in 2024 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI. The former Dodgers will be aiming to build on his numbers with the Reds in the 2025 season.
