Dodgers vs Yankees: Who won the most World Series games? A look into the history of MLB's iconic rivalry

The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees will face off against each other in the World Series for the 12th time in MLB history. The Yankees are looking to win their 28th World Series title – but it'd be their first World Series title since 2009 – while it'd be the eighth title for the Dodgers and second in the last five years.

There are many rivalry narratives for this upcoming heavyweight matchup, as it's Hollywood versus Broadway, Subway versus Freeway and most importantly, Shohei Ohtani versus Aaron Judge.

Both teams are getting amped up to renew one of the biggest rivalries in the MLB, as the Yankees are playing in the World Series for the 43rd time while the Dodgers make their 22nd appearance in the Fall Classic.

The Yankees hold a better record against the Dodgers in the World Series with the overall head-to-head currently at 8-3 in favor of the Bronx Bombers. However, the last time these two teams met in 1981, the Dodgers came forth victorious.

The Yankees have been playing since 1903, and they've become one of the most successful teams in the history of MLB. While the Dodgers were founded in 1890, they stayed in New York until going to Los Angeles before the 1958 campaign.

Dodgers shortstop Tommy Edman excited to play in first World Series game against Yankees

Tommy Edman is set to play in the first World Series matchup of his career, and he's quite excited that he has the chance to be a part of the legendary clash between both clubs on the biggest stage.

"It's what you always dream about as a little kid getting to play in the World Series, playing for the Dodgers against the Yankees. It's pretty surreal," Edman said via Barrons.com.

"I'm just excited to get to play those big games. Over this next week or so we're going to start preparing against the Yankees. But it's a dream come true, for sure," he added.

Edman was announced to be the Most Valuable Player of the National League Championship Series, where the Dodgers washed out the New York Mets in six games.
