Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts returned to the team on Monday after almost two months on the injured list. He was sidelined after suffering a left hand fracture in June.
With Mookie Betts returning, the Dodgers designated their trade deadline acquisition Amed Rosario for assignment. It was Rosario’s second stint with Los Angeles after they acquired him from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for minor league pitcher Michael Flynn.
Several fans reacted negatively to the news of Amed Rosario getting moved to make room for Mookie Betts.
"Great for Mookie coming back, but why the hell did we even trade for Rosario?? Doesn't make any sense lol," one fan wrote.
“Glad Mookie is back… but Amed has been solid, no?” another fan said.
“lol dodgers what you doing?” another fan wrote.
Several other fans continued to criticize the Dodgers, while some were just excited about Betts’ return.
“Why Rosario? Who’s the human who decided this?” a comment reads.
“Betts is back!” another comment reads.
“Ahmed and heyward r on the roster but no let's send Rosario packing,” someone wrote.
Amed Rosario has had a good 2024 season with a .305 batting average. With the Los Angeles Dodgers this year, he made only 12 plate appearances, with three hits, two RBIs, and one stolen base.
Rosario signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Tampa Bay Rays in February. While with the Rays, he hit two home runs and drove in 26 RBIs, with seven walks and nine stolen bases in 76 games played.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts opened up about decision to DFA Amed Rosario
Mookie Betts returned to the lineup, batting second while playing in right field in the opening game of their series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke about the decision to designate Amed Rosario for assignment, saying:
“It was a difficult conversation. It was a short stint. Where we were at at that point in time, weren’t playing good baseball, guys banged up, not sure when guys were going to return to play. So for us to get him here was huge, and kind of raised the floor, and he helped us win some ball games.”
“With Mookie coming back, we had a tough decision. Tough conversation. I’m sure he’s going to land somewhere. I told him he’s a championship-caliber baseball player. I’m looking forward to seeing him sometime in the postseason.”
Mookie Betts gave LA a 2-0 lead in Monday’s game against the Brewers with a 375-foot home run, his 11th of the season. The homer brought in two runs in the third inning of the game.
At the time of this writing, Shohei Ohtani has made the score 4-0 with a two-run homer in the fifth inning.
