Since his first season in the MLB in 2016, Alex Bregman had become a staple in the Houston Astros infield. Now in his first major free agency, Bregman is expected to not return to Houston, as the team is already looking for sound alternatives.

On the Mayor's Office, host Sean Casey sounded confident that the Houston Astros won't pursue Alex Bregman's sweepstakes anymore. He said that the Astros' Kyle Tucker trade to the Chicago Cubs and reports suggesting their interest in Nolan Arenado showcase that they are looking for short term backups to fill Bregman's shoes.

"It sounds like Houston’s moving on, with how they’re moving Tucker. I think they’re trying to move Presley, it sounds like they tried to get Arenado. There’s just things they’re doing, you’re like, they’re trying to retool right now, probably. And it doesn’t sound like Bregman’s in their plans," Casey said. [12:40]

The Astros traded Kyle Tucker last month in exchange for Cubs infielder Issac Paredes. They have also gained significant traction for being one of the major teams linked to St. Louis Cardinals veteran third baseman Nolan Arenado.

Arenado is a multiple Gold Glove winner at the hot corner, an award Bregman won in 2024. Both additions indicate that the Astros have given up on re-signing the two-time All-Star.

Sean Casey confident of Alex Bregman heading to the Red Sox

Sean Casey, who played his final season in the MLB with the Red Sox, is certain that all signs point towards the Boston Red Sox adding Alex Bregman to their infield.

He also said that if Bregman joins in the hot corner, they would have to move Rafael Devers to the other corner at 1B, which is currenty Triston Casas' position. But it would be a good problem to have for them.

"If you look at the Red Sox, you could figure that out. It would get a little tricky though because if you do bring in Bregman and you just say you’re gonna throw Devers at first, where’s Tristan Casas going, who’s a big bat too? So they’d have to figure something out there. You could probably put Bregman at second base. ... You’d have to figure it out, but you could definitely figure it out. It’s a good problem to have," Casey added. [13:00]

The Red Sox could bolster their lineup, as Alex Bregman's addition would add some experience to the team.
