On Monday, MLB insider Chris Rose took to X (formerly Twitter) to post a clip featuring Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos. In the video, Castellanos made a controversial statement that New York Mets shortstop Jose Iglesias should have won the NL MVP award over LA Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani.
Not a lot of fans shared Castellanos' opinion. They took to X to react to the clip, expressing their outrage in the comments.
"Drug test him immediately," a fan wrote.
"Damn. Even baseball players have CTE," another fan said.
"What is Nick on!!" one fan wrote.
"Castellanos should be banned from the MLB for this take" another fan commented.
"Get his head examined" another fan said.
"Let’s just pray he never gets to have a say in a vote lol. He is salty af" another fan wrote.
Iglesias had a great year with the Mets, finishing the regular season with a .337 batting average, four home runs and 26 RBIs, arguably one of the best players in his position in the MLB in defensive situations.
However, Ohtani batted .310 with 54 home runs and 110 RBIs, while also stealing 59 bases, to become the first player to enter the 50-50 club. There was a slim chance of anyone except the Japanese international taking home the NL MVP award.
Nick Castellanos' mom Michelle "all in" for 2025 season
Nick Castellanos had a strong 2024 with the Philadelphia Phillies, finishing the regular season with a .254 batting average, 23 home runs and 86 RBIs, while also demonstrating exemplary levels of fitness and commitment, featuring in all 162 regular season games.
After winning their first NL East title since 2011, Castellanos and the Phillies entered October full of confidence but their all too familiar postseason woes continued, as they fell short of the mark against the New York Mets in the NLDS.
However, it appears Castellanos' biggest fan, his mother Michelle, is heading into the 2025 season full of belief that this may finally be the year Philadelphia goes all the way. On Jan. 2, she took to X to share a snap of bets she placed on the Phillies to win the NL East, the pennant and the World Series.
"I’m all in! ⚾️🏟️" Michelle Castellanos captioned.
Phillies fans, who have been longing for a World Series title since 2008, will be hoping Michelle's predictions turn out to be a moment of genius.
