The Houston Astros dropped the three-game series opener against the New York Mets at Citi Field on Friday, losing 7-2. Interestingly, Houston had 12 hits in the game but couldn't drive them in at crucial stages, leaving 13 men on base on the night.
Following the defeat, fans expressed their displeasure and mocked the team for leaving men in scoring positions. One fan took a dig at Mauricio Dubon for not driving in the runners.
"Dubon left like a 2500 man on base"
"Bregman and runners in scoring position sold tonight," another wrote.
"LOL, THIS IS WHAT CHEATERS GET. FRAUDS," another added.
The barrage continued, with more fans criticizing Dubon:
"Dubon left 10 runners on base," one commented.
"Trade dubon for a 1B," another added.
"It wasn’t the Astros night, they were riding on a 7-game winning streak; I can’t win them. Blanco, dubon and Loper had their struggles and Bregman didn’t help either. They will be fine. It’s on to the next one.Valdez on the bump tomorrow," one quipped.
Astros' offense didn't reach home plate; the Mets continue their hot run
The Mets had fewer hits but more runs as they cashed in on their opportunities. The team has been on a good streak, going 18-6 since May 30.
Infielder Jose Altuve blasted his 39th career leadoff homer against Jose Quintana. The Mets responded with a sac-fly from Francisco Alvarez. Jeremy Pena drove in Yordan Alvarez in the top of the third, while Tyrone Taylor settled the score with a homer off Ronel Blanco in the fourth inning.
The Mets took their first lead of the game when Pete Alonso homered to left field in the sixth. Jeff McNeil followed it up with another home run, which allowed three runners to reach home plate as the Mets' lead ballooned up to 6-2. Francisco Lindor had an RBI double late in the game.
With the win, Houston dropped below the .500 mark (40-41), while the Mets' surge now has them at 40-39.
