MLB outfielder Jose Siri completed an amazing home plate steal while playing in the Dominican Winter League, which has produced some hilarious reactions from fans on social media.

After an impressive season with the Tampa Bay Rays this year, the Dominican was traded to the New York Mets at the end of the season. Siri is now spending a part of the offseason playing for the Gigantes del Cibao at LIDOM, where his crazy base running caught the attention of baseball fans on social media:

"Dude went thru Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, Ecuador, and Peru to avoid that tag," wrote one fan on Instagram. "Bro hit the drive thru on his way home," added another.

Siri's base running has sparked a heated debate among fans on social media. While some focused on Siri's outrageous base running, others pointed out that the outfielder was way off the base path:

"No baselines in LIDOM?" asked one fan.
"Four more steps he could've sat in the 3rd base dugout," observed another.
"After he slide in 3rd base he was planning to go home," wrote another fan.

While some claim that he was off the basepath, others point to the fact that a runner's basepath is established when a tag attempt occurs. Clearly the umpires thought it was within the rules to call him safe.

Jose Siri was originally signed by the Cincinnati Reds as an international free agent back in 2012 and he eventually went on to make his MLB debut with the Houston Astros in 2021.

After less than two years in Houston, the outfielder was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays, where he eventually became a mainstay in the lineup. Coming off a good season with them this year, Siri was traded to the New York Mets in exchange for RHP Eric Orze.

Mets outfielder Jose Siri makes history while playing in LIDOM

While the New York Mets were busy presenting their marquee signing, Juan Soto, to fans at Citi Field, another Dominican star that they acquired this year was making history in LIDOM.

Outfielder Jose Siri is well-known in the MLB for his electric pace and he has been putting it on display in the Dominican Winter League. He became only the sixth player in history to steal home plate three times in a regular season and the first player since 1970.
