New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres committed a blunder that turned the series sweep against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. Furthermore, a similar incident took place at the beginning of their next three-game series against the Kansas City Royals on Monday, where he made yet another error.
Torres missed a crucial catch while fielding. The moment the ball was up in the air Torres had his eyes set, following it all the way, swerving and adjusting as the ball came down towards him. However, he couldn't balance himself and subsequently fell to the ground, missing the ball entirely. This allowed the Royals to add a run to their tally.
Fans were left feeling disappointed by the play, as they shared their thoughts on social media.
Here's what some fans had to say about Gleybor Torres on X/Twitter:
"Right fielder has to call him off. Elementary baseball. Horrible!" one fan said.
"So glad this is Gleybers last year. Horrible player!" another fan said.
"I will say it time and time again, Gleyber Torres should have been traded away years ago, huge disappointment as a overall player. Thankfully his time left here is short," one fan remarked.
"Nope Gleyber being Gleyber Yankees trying there hardest to give this game to the Royals. They always play like this with Cole or Rodon on the mound," one fan wrote.
"Can’t wait until Gleyber is in a new uniform next spring!" one fan opined.
"It’s always Gleyber - always," another fan added.

Before Monday's game at Yankee Stadium, Gleyber Torres also couldn't stop his fielding fumble against the Cubs. He couldn't throw the ball in enough time to get his team over the line and seal the series (via NJ.com):
"That’s a tough play because it’s hit sharp, but it’s bounding,” the Yankees manager said. “You’ve got to read it right off the bat and commit to that short hop. Infielders, it’s all about creating the hop, giving ground to create a long hop or going to try and work through the short hop."
The Bronx Bombers managed to return to winning ways immediately, beating the Royals 10-4 in the opening game of their three-game series. Torres and Co. will look to take the series in their next matchup on Tuesday.
