On Thursday, Maria Tatis took to Instagram to post a video featuring her son, Fernando Tatis Jr., and fellow big league hitter Elly De La Cruz. In it, they got some valuable offseason guidance from the Padres star's father, who was also an established major league third baseman in his day.

Having made his major league debut in the colors of the Texas Rangers, Fernando Tatis Sr. went on to spend 11 years in the big leagues. In those years, he went on to represent the St. Louis Cardinals, Montreal Expos, Baltimore Orioles and New York Mets, after his time with the Rangers came to an end in 1998.
The 50-year-old holds the MLB record for registering eight RBIs in a single inning, having hit two grand slams in the same game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on April 23, 1999. At that time, he was playing for the Cardinals .
Fernando Tatis Jr. celebrates birthday playing golf
With the baseball season still a few months away, it appears Fernando Tatis Jr. is spending some time practicing his swing with a golf club instead of a baseball bat. On Jan. 2, the two-time All-Star took to Instagram to post a video, as he enjoyed his 26th birthday playing golf.
"Birthday Hacks & Sunsets 🦦🌅," Fernando Tatis Jr. captioned his Instagram post.
On the field, Tatis Jr. had a strong season for the San Diego Padres, playing a key role for his team, as they finished top of the NL wildcard standings to seal qualification to the postseason.
The 26-year-old finished the regular season with a .276 batting average, 21 home runs and 49 RBIs, earning his second career All-Star cap in 2024 for his outstanding performances.
The Dominican and his team headed into the postseason full of confidence, which only grew after the Padres made light work of the Atlanta Braves in the wildcard series.
However, bitter rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers once again played spoilsport, eliminating their rivals in the NLDS, and went on to win their eighth World Series.
