Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz is known for his distinct fashion style. On Friday, he shared a picture on his Instagram Stories, showcasing a trendy blue vest, black jeans, red Nike sneakers and a cowboy hat.
See the photo below.
Those who have been keeping up with Elly's off-field appearances will know that the 23-year-old has proven he has quite a penchant for turning heads at the events he attends.
At a glance, it appears the cowboy hat that Elly De La Cruz is sporting in his latest story is the same one he wore at his first-ever All-Star Game Red Carpet event back in July. On that occasion, the Dominican paired the black hat with a contrasting pink suit and a pair of trendy white sneakers.
De La Cruz had a strong 2024 campaign, finishing the regular season with a .259 batting average, 25 home runs and 76 RBIs. He boasts blistering speed, which he demonstrated as he stole 67 bases in the 2024 season — far and away the most in the major leagues.
Owing to his outstanding performances, the Dominican also earned his first-ever All-Star cap during the 2024 season.
New arrival Gavin Lux looks forward to playing with Elly De La Cruz
Shortly after New Year’s Day, it was announced that the Cincinnati Reds had completed a deal to acquire infielder Gavin Lux from the LA Dodgers, with the Dodgers receiving a competitive balance Round A pick, along with outfielder Mike Sirota. In his career so far, Lux has won the World Series twice — in 2020 and most recently in 2024.
Shortly after completing his move to Cincinnati, Lux talked about how he was looking forward to playing alongside Elly De La Cruz, who is regarded as one of the brightest talents in the sport at the moment.
"He's electric, man. That’s about as dynamic as an athlete as you can get in baseball," Lux said. "We played him in Dodger Stadium last year, I think he stole four or five bases. ... I'm like, we've got to keep this guy off the bases because he's a problem right now."
It's like you walk him or he gets a single, it turns into a triple. Obviously, he's got stupid juice, he can run, and he's a freak athlete. I'm excited to see him play everyday because that's about as high of a ceiling for a baseball player as you can get."
Having added a two-time World Series winner to their squad, Reds fans will be hoping some of Lux's past success can rub off on his new teammates, and that their team can finally make it to the postseason for the first time since 2020.
