New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge made a highly expensive defensive error in Game 5 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers that will live long in the memory of fans witnessed it. NFL commentator Greg Olsen used it as an analogy to describe a similar fumble from superstar running back Alvin Kamara on Sunday night.
The Yankees faithful were understandably not impressed with the call and expressed their bitterness on social media.
The New Orleans Raiders were leading the Atlanta Falcons 21-17 with less than two minutes left in the final quarter. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr threw a pass from a third down to Alvin Kamara, which found him unguarded with wide open space in front. However, the five-time Pro Bowl veteran inexplicably dropped the ball, which halted a move that could have sealed victory for his team.
Even though the stakes were hardly the same, Olsen compared the mistake with the dropped catch from Aaron Judge in Game 5 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium. Commentating on the game with Joe Davis, the play-by-play announcer for Fox Sports during their coverage of the Fall Classic, Olsen remarked.
"That's Aaron Judge dropping the ball in the fifth inning of the World Series. There's really just no explanation (for) one of the best players of this era."
Many Yankees fans took exception to the comment and let their anger out on X.
"Everyone likes to s**t on the Yankees," posted one fan.
"This genuinely hurts," said another fan.
"Anti Yankee discrimination and bias," claimed another fan.
Meanwhile, fans from other MLB teams enjoyed the remark from the NFL broacaster.
"That’s actually funny as hell," stated one fan.
"I see the resemblemance," another fan posted.
"It was that bad," wrote another fan.
Despite the mistake from Alvin Kamara, the Saints defense fended off the Falcons rally to close out victory.
Costly error by Aaron Judge led to Yankees downfall in World Series
The uncharacteristic error from Aaron Judge in Game 5 proved to be a decisive play for the New York Yankees in the outcome of the contest as well as the World Series.
It all unraveled in the fifth inning after Judge dropped an easy catch in the outfield that eventually allowed the Los Angeles Dodgers to produce a stunning 6-5 comeback win and claim the World Series.
"I think falling short in the World Series will stick with me until I die, probably," Judge said after the game.
Even though the season ended on a sour note for Judge, he remains the unanimous favorite to win the American League MVP. He batted .322/.458/.701 during the regular season with 58 home runs and 144 RBIs.
