After five fruitful seasons with the LA Dodgers, second baseman Gavin Lux will now ply his trade in Cincinnati. On Jan. 6, 2025, the Dodgers sent Lux to the Reds in exchange for Mike Sirota and a competitive balance pick in the upcoming draft.

In a recent segment of "MLB Network Radio" on SiriusXM, former New York Mets general manager and now baseball pundit Jim Duquette shared his thoughts about Lux's move to the Queen City.

"I like Cincinnati's acquisition of him. However, I questioned where he will fit into the team's depth," Duquette said (0:03 onwards).

While he liked the addition of Gavin Lux's addition to the Reds, Duquette said he was unsure of how the second baseman would fit, given the team's abundance of players at that position.

"There's Matt McLain on second. I'm guessing he will move to center field. I like it from Cincinnati's side of things. However, I just don't know how are they going to arrange their pieces," he said.

Duquette however lauded Lux's abilities and noted what he could bring to the table.

"With the presence that he has on defense. I think his offense would be much more consistent overall throughout the course of the season."

Gavin Lux's career with the Dodgers

Gavin Lux was a valued member of the Dodgers organization. Known for his tenacity and grit, he endeared himself to Dodger fans. Now, he will embark on a new journey with the Cincinnati Reds.

In five years on the West Coast, Lux compiled a .252/.326/.383 slash line with an OPS of .709. The second baseman also hit 28 home runs and drove in 155 RBIs in 412 games for the Dodgers. In 2022, Lux led the National League in triples with seven.

Perhaps the most unforgettable moment of Lux's career in Los Angeles was the game-tying sacrifice fly he hit in Game 5 of the 2024 World Series. Lux’s sacrifice fly off Yankees closer Luke Weaver drove in Kike Hernández to tie the game at 6-6.

The RBI proved pivotal, as moments later, Mookie Betts hit a sacrifice fly of his own, driving in Tommy Edman for the go-ahead run that would seal the World Series title for the team.
