Ahead of a crucial Game 7, Houston Astros pitcher Bryan Abreu is facing a two-game suspension, but Adam Jones doesn't believe it will take place. The former outfielder has a source that he can't reveal that says the league doesn't want to place an asterisk on the series, thus they will delay the suspension if it's upheld.
Jones said on Foul Territory:
"Well, I can't give up my source obviously. It's Game 7, I just think that the powers that be understand the magnitude of it. Remember when the NBA suspended Draymond Green for Game 5 and people going to say that that let LeBron James back into the Finals? I just think that the powers that be understand the magnitude and on the tail end, 'We'll get you next year.'"
The league is hearing his appeal of the two-game suspension for hitting Adolis Garcia in Game 5. Jones says that the league knows what the reaction will be if they suspend Abreu and his absence helps cause a loss.
The Houston Astros have plenty of good pitchers, but losing Abreu in Game 7 would be tough. The league may defer the suspension to next season and prevent any issues with this series or the potential World Series if Houston wins Game 7.
Naturally, the decision has yet to be made. Jones, who played primarily for the Baltimore Orioles, has a source that believes the league is thinking in that mindset. Game 7 is tonight, so a decision will have to be revealed sooner rather than later.
Bryan Abreu appealing suspension
After an ejection in Game 5, Bryan Abreu was handed a two-game ban. The relief pitcher appealed as everyone does, which delayed the decision. That allowed him to play in Game 6.
The suspension loomed over Game 7, but according to Jones it won't even play a role. Abreu has been used frequently by the Astros, so he may not even be able to pitch.
Nevertheless, according to Jones, he will be available out of the pen tonight.
