Jhony Brito pulled off a momentous performance for the New York Yankees as he helped the team to a 4-1 win against the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park. The rookie starter pitched five innings and gave away just one run, which was enough to give the Yanks their fifth win of the season.

The game proved to be less straightforward than what it looked on paper as Brito faced some stiff competition against the O's batters. He pitched only 56 of his overall 92 pitches for strikes but was appreciated for the important pitches he made in crucial moments. Brito gave away three hits, one run and two walks and has taken his ERA to 0.90.0

Jhony Brito has been with the Yankees since 2015

Jhony Brito has been in the New York Yankees system since 2015. The 25-year-old played out his amateur career in the Dominican Republic before he was signed as an international free agent.

Brito spent the 2022 season with Somerset and the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, pitching to a cumulative 11–4 record and 2.96 ERA with 91 strikeouts in 112 2⁄3 innings across 26 games (23 starts).

Due to injuries to top players in the Yankees rotation, Jhony Brito was added to the 40-man roster. He made his debut in a win against the San Francisco Giants before being sent back to the minors.

After third baseman Josh Donaldson suffered an injury, Brito was called back to the roster without having to play the mandatory 15 days in the minor leagues.

After saving the day against the Orioles, Yankees fans will be optimistic about Brito's role while their starters are out injured.
