Alex Rodriguez was one of the many New York Yankees in attendance at Yankee Stadium to celebrate Old Timer's Day and a get-together for those who were part of the team when the club won its last World Series in 2009. This was the first time A-Rod had received an invitation to the annual gathering.

On Saturday, A-Rod shared glimpses from his time at the ballpark, reuniting with his former teammates, like Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera. He also visited the clubhouse and the museum, where he recounted the memories from their 2009 winning run.

"Feels like yesterday. I remember the whole pile coming my way. It was so much fun," A-Rod said while seeing the poster of Yankees celebrating after winning the World Series.

Upon learning that he had received an invitation to the annual gathering, A-Rod was shocked and honored.

“I was actually surprised that I got an invitation — honored, honored,” Rodriguez said. “Very happy, I told my daughter right away. It’s a great thrill. It is my first time back and I’m excited to be back. I’m very proud of my time in New York and I’m very proud to be a part of a championship team.”

Alex Rodriguez joining the Old-Timers' Day reignited the debate concerning his place in Monument Park, where plaques of many Yankee legends can be found.

Upon being asked about the A-Rod's plaque in Monument Park, CC Sabathia and Jorge Posada avoided taking sides, while former greats Lou Piniella and David Cone believe he should be there.

“I think things like Monument Park and the Hall of Fame are meant to document the history of the game,” MLB analyst Cone said. “A-Rod is a big part of history, so I believe that you have to cover that part of it.
“You just can’t take a brush and make people disappear as if they didn’t exist or they didn’t have this incredible history. I think the fans would like to see it. If you took a fan poll, he would overwhelmingly get support.”

Looking at his resume, Alex Rodriguez does deserve a place but his career had some controversial moments, especially during his Yankees stint.

In his 12 seasons with the Yankees, he batted .283 with 351 home runs and a .900 OPS. He earned two MVPs, seven All-Star selections and the 2009 title. But he was suspended the entire 2014 season for his part in the Biogenesis steroids scandal. He is also previously alleged to have used performance-enhancing drugs.

At one point, he also threatened to sue the Yankees management and shared a mixed relationship with the Yankees fanbase, who booed and cheered for him in different parts of his career.
