The San Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. is set to start his rehab assignments this week. Getting back Tatis would surely be a major boost for the Pads (73-58) as they are 22-8 (per Bleacher Report) since the All-Star break and are challenging the Los Angeles Dodgers (77-53) for first place in the NL West.

The 2-time All-Star was placed on a 10-day IL after a stress reaction on his right thigh bone in June but has been sidelined ever since. When he was placed on the IL, Tatis said that he had been suffering from this injury for the whole season and that the doctors recommended he take some time off to heal completely rather than continue playing with it.

According to a August 25 report by journalist Bob Nightengale, Tatis is set to start his rehab assignments this week as he eyes to make a return soon.

Padres have quite a few known faces back in the clubhouse who were sidelined for the past couple of months. Japanese star Yu Darvish is set to return after three months. If Tatis also gets back before the postseason starts, it could help the team make a deep run.

Fernando Tatis shares positive updates on his injury, eyes a September return

Fernando Tatis has shared some positive updates on his femur injury. Although the 25-year-old failed to mention any specific date for his recovery, he said that he would return to action in September.

"It felt really good just being outside with the boys, ramping up," Tatis said (per ESPN). "Every day a step closer. I really don't have specific dates. I feel that's more a conversation between the training staff, the manager and myself and A.J. [Preller, the general manager]. But I'm definitely playing baseball the next month. That's what it looks like."

Before getting sidelined in June, Tatis had played 80 games for the Padres this regular season, hitting .279, with an OPS of .822, 14 HRs and 36 RBIs.
