According to MLB insider Kevin Acee, the San Diego Padres are set to receive some major reinforcements as Fernando Tatis Jr. is expected to be activated from the 60-day IL ahead of Monday's clash against the Detroit Tigers. The two-time All-Star has been out of action since June 21 after suffering a stress fracture in his right femur.

"He’s baaaaaack!! According to @sdutKevinAcee Fernando Tatis Jr is set to come of the IL and be in the lineup today vs the Tigers! #Padres." @Sports760 posted on X.

The return of Fernando Tatis Jr. comes at a crucial time for the Padres as they look to secure a postseason berth. Heading into Monday's matchup, the Padres hold a three-game hold in the National League wild-card race, thanks to their 78-61 record.

Although Tatis Jr. has been limited to only 80 games this season, he made a major impact for San Diego when he was in the lineup. Throughout his limited action this year, the talented shortstop-turned-outfielder has posted a .279 batting average with 14 home runs, 36 RBIs and eight stolen bases.

Fernando Tatis Jr. returns to a Padres lineup that has thrived in his absence

The Padres have enjoyed a spectacular season from the likes of Manny Machado and NL Rookie of the Year contender Jackson Merrill. Thus, bringing in Tatis Jr. provides the club with a true X-factor as the regular season winds down.

"The Padres are scorching hot. They just added Fernando Tatis back into the lineup. What a time to be alive," @NationPadres wrote on X.

While losing a player like Tatis Jr. could be devastating to any lineup, this has not been the case for the San Diego Padres. Since June 21, the Padres have posted an impressive 39-21 record. While there might be some rust as Fernando returns, the fact that he is surrounded by a star-studded lineup should ease his transition.

Once fully ramped up, Fernando Tatis Jr. is likely to bat next to the likes of Luis Arraez and Manny Machado.
