On Friday, San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. took to Instagram to share a video, as he and fellow big leaguer Jurickson Profar headed to the gym to get an offseason workout in. Having shared the dressing room at Petco Park for more than five seasons now, the pair appear to be quite good friends.

The exercise that Jurickson Profar is performing in the video is known as a leg extension. It is best performed with the help of a machine, as is demonstrated in a video, which helps one optimally load their quads, which are one of the largest and strongest muscles in the human body.

Looking at the video, it appears the two are working extremely hard in the downtime, and quite motivated to carry on improving after impressive performances in the 2024 season.

Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jurickson Profar look to build on impressive 2024 season

Both Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jurickson Profar had strong 2024 seasons, playing key roles for the San Diego Padres as they had a strong regular season, finishing top of the NL wildcard with a 93-69 record, clinching qualification to the postseason in the process.

Tatis Jr. ended the regular season with a .276 batting average, 21 home runs and 49 RBIs. Meanwhile, Jurickson Profar finished with a .280 batting average, 24 home runs and 85 RBIs.

The Friars headed into October full of confidence, and there was plenty of hope this may finally be the year a World Series title comes to San Diego. Their playoff campaign got off to the perfect start, as they made light work of the Atlanta Braves in the wildcard series.

However, it was yet more postseason heartbreak for the Friars, as their postseason came to an end at the hands of bitter rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the NLDS. To make matters worse for Padres fans, the Dodgers then went on to win the whole thing.
