Astros fans in distress as team crumbles down to a disheartening loss vs. Giants

Monday’s game was an extra inning 3-4 loss for the Houston Astros against the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. The loss in the series opener was Astros' third in their last five games.

The Astros' offense went scoreless for almost six innings and only scored their first run in the seventh inning. Jeremy Pena’s sacrifice fly gave Yordan Alvarez a chance to score, tying the game at 1-1.

Both teams maintained the score, eventually entering the 10th inning. The Astros' Victor Caratini hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Joey Loperfido to score a run. Alex Bregman's single brought in another run for the team.

After a series of singles, the Giants' offense was one run ahead of the Astros, securing the victory. Fans were disheartened after their team’s defeat and many took to X/Twitter to express their emotions.

"Fire Joe Espada like yesterday!" a fan said.
“Not watching a single Astros game until that loser Joe espada is off this team,” another fan said.
“This is on Espada for keeping Montero in too long in the 10th and Peña on that error. This team is not making it to the postseason. They're a 77 and 85 at best,” another fan wrote.

Several other fan's reactions continued with some blaming Astros pitcher Rafael Montero.

"Send Montero and Abreu to Korea," a comment reads.
“There has to be someone in our system better than Montero. Why, why, why is he still a Houston Astro?” another comment reads.
“This sorry bullpen continues to be the reason they are below .500,” another comment reads.

The Houston Astros pitching staff held the San Francisco Giants batters to only one run in nine innings. In the 10th inning, Rafael Montero took the mound and gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits with no strikeouts.

Astros manager Joe Espada disappointed after team’s second straight loss

The Houston Astros recorded their second straight loss against the San Francisco Giants following a 7-9 defeat against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Discussing their defeat, Astros manager Joe Espada said (via MLB.com):

“We put some good at bats together, putting some extra runs in the board, which just wasn’t enough… Just couldn’t make pitches there and couldn’t get out of that inning. Just a really tough loss.”

The Houston Astros are positioned third in the AL West with 30 wins and 37 losses. They are set to face the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday in the second game of their series.
