Fans reacted to Wednesday’s game in which the Houston Astros lost 2-1 against division rivals, the Seattle Mariners. It was their third consecutive loss against the AL West leaders in their four-game series at T-Mobile Park.
The Astros started the night with a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Jake Meyers hit an RBI single giving Yordan Alvarez the chance to score. However, after that, their bats froze, and they were unable to score any more runs.
Mariners outfielder Dominic Canzone’s solo homer in the fifth tied the game and swung the momentum, which they continued to maintain until the end. In the 10th inning, J.P. Crawford hit a sacrifice fly on which Jonatan Clase scored continuing the Mariners’ winning streak.
Astros fans were quite displeased with their team’s performance and expressed their frustration on X/Twitter:
“This team is so unpredictable. They lost a lot of close games this year,” a fan said.
“Completely out coached. Astros swinging for the fence instead of advancing the runner,” another fan said.
“Y’all are now 0-3 since bringing Abreu back from his demotion. Get that bad juju out of the lineup, clubhouse, stadium. The bats were doing just fine until y’all activated him,” another fan said.
Several fans pointed fingers at Astros manager Joe Espada for the team’s losing performance:
“LMFAO fire that loser Joe espada,” a user wrote.
“Espada is the worst manager in baseball right now,” another user wrote.
“Season is over this is who the Astros are now. It was fun while it lasted,” a comment read.
The Houston Astros pitching staff gave up four hits and four walks while striking out 15. They are now ranked third in the AL West with 24 wins and 32 losses.
Astros manager Joe Espada addresses the team’s offensive struggles
The Seattle Mariners pitching staff struck out 14 batters without allowing any walks, holding the Houston Astros to only one run throughout the game. Discussing their offensive struggles, Astros manager Joe Espada said (via MLB.com):
"We just faced pretty good pitching. I think our guys are competing, and we're grinding at-bats. It's one of those nights where we just faced a pretty good starter with pretty good stuff and we just had a tough time making adjustments."
The Houston Astros will face the Seattle Mariners again on Thursday in the final game of the four-game series.
