Francisco Alvarez finally got his chance to shine with the New York Mets. Ahead of its Friday home opener, the organization called up the promising catcher. The organization views Alvarez as its top prospect.
Alvarez was candid about his unhibited excitement after making the Mets home opener roster.

As a result of Omar Narvaez's injury, Alvarez was called up. Narvaez could be out for up to eight weeks due to a strained left calf.

The Mets needed to add another hitter to their lineup before their postseason run, so Alvarez was called up late in the previous campaign.
Alvarez had 12 at-bats in five games and a batting average of.167. In his brief time in the majors, he did manage to smash a double and a home run, despite his struggles.
In 2018, Francisco Alvarez was signed as an international free agent. As the youngest player in the league, he started his career at age 17 with the GCL Mets. He played in the league for just seven games before being called up to the Kingsport Mets. His slashline in 35 games for the Kingsport Mets was.282/.377/.443.
