The New York Mets have one of the most exciting rosters in MLB after acquiring superstar slugger Juan Soto on a record-breaking $765 million contract in the offseason.

Soto is coming off a career-best season with cross-town rivals New York Yankees, which saw him finish in the final three of the 2024 AL MVP votes. However, the Dominican star would be expected to hit the ground running for the Mets, who are aiming for another deep postseason run in 2025.

One player who knows all about the pressure of playing at Citi Field is former All-Star third baseman David Wright. One of the most beloved figures in franchise history, Wright talked about how Francisco Lindor can help Soto settle with the Mets.

He said on "Amazin' Conversations with Jay Horwitz" podcast (25:20 onwards):

"The way Francisco Lindor has played since the Mets traded for him has been a plus. He's had some bumps in the road and the way he handles those bumps, I think proves that he's built for New York. And I'm sure Soto is going to be the same way.
"It's not all going to be roses and rainbows from here on out for for those two guys. But I think with the leadership that Francisco brings to that team, I think Soto can learn from that, and I'm sure Francisco is going to help Soto along the way."

Francisco Lindor was traded to the Mets from Cleveland in January 2021 and he signed a 10-year, $341 million extension with the team in March. The four-time All-Star not only had one of the most productive offensive seasons with the Mets in 2024 but also proved to be a leader in the clubhouse.

Lindor and the Mets had an underwhelming start to the 2024 season. The star shortstop reportedly had a meeting with the players in the clubhouse that eventually galvanized the team to a strong second half of the season and made a run through to the ALCS.

Mets legend thinks setbacks will make Juan Soto stronger

David Wright, a seven-time All-Star, played his entire MLB career with the Mets before announcing his retirement in 2018. The Mets legend feels the duo might struggle at times and it'll only make two of the best players in the game even stronger. He said:

"Soto played across town, but there's going to be bumps in the road, and that kind of shows what a player's made of. If he is able to come out on the other end of that, even stronger and tougher because, you know, you're not always going to get hits, you're not always going to make the place.
"It's a difficult place, you're under a microscope but those are two of the best players in the game and I am excited about 2025, that's for sure."

While the Mets have already made a significant splash by signing Soto, they are still in talks of bringing back fan-favorite Pete Alonso.
