Pete Alonso has been linked to the Toronto Blue Jays in the last few days. The team has become a strong contender to sign the first baseman after Alonso's negotiations with the New York Mets stalled.

Pete Alonso and the Mets have been in a stalemate for some time now after the former and his agent, Scott Boras, rejected the Mets' reported offer of a three-year $68-70 million deal.

The Mets hosted their annual fan fest Amazin' Day, where shortstop Francisco Lindor was asked about Alonso and if he was surprised that he was yet to sign. He had an honest advice for his former teammate.

"Surprised? Well, I can't be surprised with somebody's decision, you know?" Lindor said. "I mean, it's his decision. So Pete should maximize it. He should make the best decision for him and his family."

Lindor and Alonso have been the mainstays in the Mets lineup ever since Francisco was traded from the Cleveland Guardians. Lindor opened up about how he felt about Alonso potentially leaving Queens.

"Pete has been here since I've been here, he has been here before me. So yeah, it would be different if he's somewhere else. Yeah, it would be different for sure. But I think he should take his time. I think he should make the best decision for himself and not feel like he's rushed into a decision, and I'm sure he will," Lindor added.

Lindor also added a short message for the 30-year-old saying:

"[I'm] thinking about you, I hope you're doing well."

Mark Vientos ready to shift to first base if Pete Alonso doesn't return

At the New York Mets' fan fest, Mark Vientos, the usual third baseman for the team, was quizzed if he were ready to take up Pete's place in the other corner. Vientos said he is ready and will keep the team's needs in mind.

“It’s hard not to pay attention to it when you see it on every platform,” Vientos said. “I’ve been getting ready for anything that happens. At the end of the day, you gotta go out there and play. I’m ready to do whatever it takes.”

If Pete Alonso were go to the Blue Jays, then he would be facing his old team sometime next season and that is likely to create a lot of drama especially when he returns to Citi Field.
