On Monday, Francisco Lindor and the New York Mets set out to secure qualification to the postseason. As the Mets players battled tooth and nail on the field, their better halves watched from the stands.
Francisco Lindor's wife, Katia, shared a photo in her social media story on Monday, featuring the WAGs in the bleachers as the Mets secured a vital victory in the series opener.
"The Latinas + the honorary latina", Katia captioned the picture in spanish, calling Sean Manaea's fiancee Talat Mirmalek a latina as well, by association with the rest of the gang
Along with Katia and Talat, the snap featured Nashaly Diaz (Edwin Diaz's wife), Francis Mendoza (Manager Carlos Mendoza's wife), Rosmaly Severino (Luis Severino's wife), Michel Quintana (Jose Quintana's wife) and Adalyz Fuentes (bullpen coach Jose Rosado's wife), as the group enjoyed the action at Truist Park.
The series was especially significant, as the playoff fates of three NL teams rested on Monday's doubleheader. With the way the wildcard shaped up, the second and third spots hinged on three possible outcomes after the day's play on Monday. If the Mets were to sweep, the Mets and the Diamondbacks would go through, and the Braves would be out.
Similarly, if the Braves swept, it would be them and the D-backs playing postseason baseball while the Mets would be sent packing. Finally, the third outcome, which ultimately ended up happening, both teams won a game each, sending both through and eliminating the Diamondbacks.
Katia Reguero posts adorable video congratulating Francisco Lindor
Following a slow start in the first game on Monday, the Mets offense exploded into life in the top of the eighth, scoring six runs in a single inning to flip a three run deficit on it's head.
However, when the hosts came to bat next, closer Edwin Diaz worked himself into a jam and ended up conceding four runs for the final out of the inning.
The Mets had only the next three outs to get back on level terms to at least force extra innings. Francisco Lindor instead decided he wanted to wrap up qualification within nine innings, as he hit a towering two-run home run to center.
Celebrating the victory, Francisco's wife Katia took to Instagram to post a video of the heartwarming moment when Lindor was congratulated by his wife and daughters.
After the pair had been engaged for about a year, Francisco Lindor married Katia Reguero in December 2021. The pair have two daughters - Kalina Zoe (three years old) and Amapole Chloe (one year old).
After securing qualification, the Mets took on the Brewers for their first playoff assignment. With both teams having won a game each so far, Francisco Lindor and co. face the NL Central champions for the final time on Thursday. The series is poised on a knife edge, as both sides' hard work all season boils down to one game.
