New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor's wife, Katia Reguero, shared a story on Thursday about the death of Amber Nicole Thurman. The death was caused by an infection that occurred as a side effect of consuming abortion pills.
Doctors in Georgia are prohibited from operating as it falls under the purview of the state anti-abortion law, making abortion illegal after the sixth week of pregnancy.
Vice President and US Presidential candidate Kamala Harris shared her thoughts on the matter via X. She posted about how the abortion law in Georgia led to an otherwise easily resolvable issue spiraling out of control, causing the untimely loss of Amber's life.
Katia also shared a story on social media to raise awareness about the tragedy; it appears that she supports Harris' opinion on the issue.
Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are the two prime candidates for the 2024 US Presidential Elections. The election is set to be held on November 5, 2024.
Katia talks about lack of resources for women's health with Dr. Randi Goldman
Alongside being a loving wife and mother of two, Reguero also hosts a podcast on YouTube called "The Un-a-Parent Podcast," where she talks about female health, motherhood and other related topics. On September 6, she invited Dr. Randi Goldman for her expertise on matters of healthcare for women.
When asked about the lack of resources for female healthcare and why that is the case, Dr. Goldman replied:
"I think when you don't have people in positions of power and leadership to be advocating specifically for women's health research and women's health resources, I think you're going to just by definition have less of it." [26:30]
"You really have to have people who are purposefully including women's health priorities in the decisions they are making at every level. Historically, there were many fewer women leaders [hence we see a lack of laws advocating for women]." [26:45]
Despite some positive changes, both Reguero and Dr. Goldman concurred that there is a long way to go to improve healthcare at all levels.
