Despite being one of the top MLB stars around, Freddie Freeman's priorities have always been with his family before his career. Recently, the Dodgers star took some time off to attend to a pressing family matter.
On Friday, Freeman's wife, Chelsea, took to Instagram to share that her son, Maximus, had been diagnosed with transient synovitis, a temporary condition that causes hip inflammation. While the condition is not life-threatening, it is rather painful, and Freeman has opted to take some time off to be with his three-year old during this difficult time.
"Freddie Freeman hasn’t missed a game this season but today he was scratched from the lineup to fly back to LA to be with his family. According to Chelsea Freeman’s instagram, their son, Maximus, has been in the hospital this week. We wish them the best" - Sportskeeda Baseball
As such, the Dodgers game against the Houston Astros on Friday was the first game that Freddie Freeman missed. Instead of suiting up at Minute Maid Park, the former NL MVP flew back to LA, so he could be at his son's side as he struggles through the health issue.
A fan favorite to be sure, Freeman has garnered a lot of well-wishes from fans, teammates, and observers alike. Recently, one Los Angeles Dodgers analyst issued some special praise on the LA first baseman.
In the Friday night edition of his podcast, Dodgers Nation, host Doug McKain paused to honor Freeman's commitment to his family. After referring to the former Atlanta Braves World Series winner as an "A1 Human", McKain continued:
"Great baseball player, even better guy. Freddie Freeman is all class, he's class personified"
Maximus is the youngest of Freddie and Chelsea Freeman's three sons. He was delivered in 2021, just two months after his brother, Brandon.

After LA's 5-0 loss in Houston on Friday, manager Dave Roberts indicated that Freeman will likely be out for the rest of the series. As Roberts claimed about his star first baseman's situation:
"He certainly had a heavy heart the last few days, and I just pray that Max is going to recover well and have a full recovery."
A .288/.395/.493 hitter this season, Freeman's bat has been very important for the Dodgers. Although his team needs him more than ever, sometimes there are situations that supercede the importance of showing up for your team once again.
