The Los Angeles Dodgers have made the tough decision of removing their star first baseman Freddie Freeman from the team due to a finger injury. The incident happened on Saturday against the St.Louis Cardinals after Freeman caught his right hand in the middle of taking a ground ball.
It happened in the sixth inning, and Freddie Freeman was removed from the game in the bottom of the eighth, while he was going 1-for-3 with one RBI single. In his place, Kiké Hernandez filled his absence at the first base. The X-rays showcased that there wasn't a fracture in any of the finger bones, and they're most likely to be just jammed by a jerk.
Blake Harris, the host of Inside The Ravine Podcast, has reported how Freeman had to leave the game after his injury.
"Freddie Freeman exited the game with a finger injury, per the broadcast," Harris said.
The finger seems to have swelled up with no broken bones reported yet. Bill Plunkett of the Orange County has assured fans with Freeman's statements about his injury.
"Freddie Freeman said bad hop grounder caught the middle finger on his right hand. Finger “blew up” (swelling). X-rays negative. Day to day," Plunkett reported.
Freddie Freeman has custom bats prepared for each of his kids
Freddie Freeman completed his 2000th game of his career against the St.Louis Cardinals on Friday. He used a custom-made bat for the celebration of his son Maximus's recovery. He has three bats prepared for his three sons with '#MaxStrong' written on all of them.
So, on Friday night, Freeman used the bat with Maximus's name on it, and in the recent game, he pledged to use the one with Charlie's name. This is a way for the first baseman to announce his immense love for his children and his happiness to see Maximus healthy again.
Speaking to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, Freddie Freeman spoke about the true meaning behind these three specially made bats.
"Last night in the 2000 game, I used Max, Max's bat. But when I FaceTime the family last night, Charlie was wanting me to use his bat tonight. So I will be going with Charlie tonight. And then he said, I want you to use Brandon tomorrow. So each day I'll use one of my kids' bats," Freeman said.
"It's a Spider-Man-ish theme because my son, when he had his IVs in, every time a nurse or a doctor walked in or a family member, he would act like he was shooting him with a spider web. So my cleats are Spider-Man as well. And they all say Max Strong, which is kind of like the slogan we've been going with because he's a very strong boy."
Freeman started every game for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season, but he left the team to attend Maximus on July 26 after he was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition. It's to be seen if he makes a return to the game and bring Brandon's bat in use or not.
