Freddie Freeman is making progress with the ankle injury which saw him miss Games 4 and 6 of the National League Championship Series. The first baseman is utilizing the few days off to recover his body after the Los Angeles Dodgers took the NL pennant last Sunday. Freeman is expected to be in the lineup for Game 1 of the World Series against the New York Yankees on Friday.
The 2024 campaign has been a challenging one for Freddie Freeman, both on and off the field. His youngest son, Charlie, was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome in the middle of the season. Last month, Freeman picked up an ankle injury in a game with the San Diego Padres towards the end of the regular season, which has certainly hampered his contribution towards the team in these playoffs.
On Tuesday, Freeman spoke to reporters to discuss his recovery process from the ankle issue that kept him out of action on Sunday.
"I don't think there's any question in anybody's mind that I will be in the lineup for Game 1," Freeman said via SI.com.
“I’ve had three straight days of running, so every day is going to be better,” he added. “Trying to do the best we can to get it to a spot where we’ll be ready to go on Friday.”
Freeman enjoyed an excellent first half of the season and made the eighth All-Star Game appearance of his career. However, he had a poor second half by his high standards after getting just eight home runs and 28 RBIs in 50 games following the midseason interval.
I keep hitting the same hurdle and I run right into it every time: Freddie Freeman
Freddie Freeman injured his ankle on Sept. 26 and was left out of the lineup by the Los Angeles Dodgers for the rest of the regular season. He added that it takes more than four hours to prepare himself physically for a game.
However, even his utmost effort has not been enough to keep Freeman on the field for every game of this postseason. He missed Games 2 and 4 of the Division Series against the San Diego Padres, in addition to being sidelined for a couple of games in the Championship Series against the New York Mets.
“It’s like you’re running a 100-meter hurdle, and I keep hitting the same hurdle and I run right into it every time,” Freeman said via MLB.com ahead of the Dodgers winning the pennant in Game 6 of the NLCS. “It is what it is, and I’m doing the best I can.”
So far, Freeman has a 7-32 record for the Dodgers this postseason, while he has not recorded any extra-base hits and has one RBI to his name.
