Freddie Freeman continued his impeccable form at the plate as he hit a home run in Game 2 of the World Series against the Yankees on Saturday. The Dodgers infielder followed up from his Game 1 winning walk-off grand slam to write his name in the history books.
On Friday, Freddie Freeman had earned a triple in the first to go along with his 10th innings home run. It was his first homer this postseason. He quickly got to two as he hit a solo bomb in the bottom of the third innings to stretch the Dodgers' lead on Saturday.
With the home run, Freeman joined an exclusive list of only two players to hit multiple home runs and a triple in the first two games of a World Series, the other being the iconic Babe Ruth. The Yankees Bambino had achieved the feat in 1923 when the Bombers triumphed over the Giants.
Something about the World Series brings out the best out of Freeman, as it was his fourth consecutive Fall Classic game where he went yard.
This feat dates back to Games 5 and 6 of the 2021 World Series when he was with the Atlanta Braves, who beat the Houston Astros. In fact, the 2020 NL MVP also joined a list of six batters to hit multiple World Series home runs with two separate teams.
Freddie Freeman recognizes importance of offdays for recovery from ankle injury
Freddie Freeman missed Game 6 of the National League Championship Series where the Dodgers clinched the pennant against the New York Mets.
As per the first baseman, rest on the subsequent days between the series against the Mets and the World Series aided his ankle recovery.
“Those six days off were huge for me, between (the) NLCS and the World Series,” Freeman said. “I was able to calm my ankle down. So hopefully with the flight tonight, I’ve been swelling a lot on flights so hopefully tomorrow we can get it down and get in a good spot for Game 3.”
The last time Freeman featured in the Fall Classic he batted at .318 with five RBIs. He has already batted in five RBIs in the first two games.
